Credit card skimmers found at gas stations in Stone Ridge, Shokan

KINGSTON, N.Y. — Credit card skimming devices were found on gas pumps at Citgo stations in Stone Ridge and Shokan, prompting an investigation by the Ulster County Department of Weights and Measures, the County Executive’s Office said Monday.

The skimmers were found at the Aero Star Citgo station, 3492 Main St., Stone Ridge, and the Citgo station at 3189 state Route 28 in Shokan, during the department’s participation in a statewide sweep for the devices, the executive’s office said in a press release.

Skimmers are illegal credit card readers attached to the regular readers on such devices as ATMs and gas pumps. They allow a third party to collect credit card data, including personal identification numbers, which then can be used for fraudulent purchases.
